Murder She Read: How To Join My Virtual Book Club

When I was in my 20s, me and a couple of my pals used to get together to get drunk, and instead of being honest about the binge drinkers we were, we’d tell everyone we were at a book club meeting. Cuz that’s way more believable?

Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m like, “hi, hello, I’d actually like to join a real book club, please.” But, no such luck.

So, I’m starting my own little virtual book club. What’s the theme of said book club, you ask?

Well, the name should give you some indication: Murder She Read.

Where does the name come from? Because my pronouns are she/her, and I like to read murder mysteries. Much clever. Such intelligence.

That’s right: we’ll be reading all things mysterious, thrilling, psychological and twisted. Good times.

And the best part? You don’t even have to get off your couch and schlep over to someone’s house to discuss what we’re reading; stay in your jammies, grab a glass of wine, live your best life from home.

So here’s the deal: use this post as a jumping off point.

Below, you’ll find a master list for every year, which breaks down the full list of books we’ll be reading in that particular year, month by month. Click on the year you’d like to view, and check out the book list. There is no pressure to join the current year – you can work off of any list you like.

Each month, there’s a new book to read.

Check out the synopsis. Sound like your jam? Cool. Jump online and order the book, or, reserve it at your local library. Don’t like that month’s book? Pick up something else and join us next month.

There’s absolutely NO PRESSURE to read them all – join at any time!

Once you’re committed to a book, you’ve got the month to finish it. We’ll start a new book on the 1st of every month.

Towards the end of each month, you’ll find a new blog post titled “Murder She Read: MONTH Book Discussion” and that’s where I’ll share my thoughts on the book, post some discussion topics and ask a few specific questions. UPDATE: I have since abandoned posting the discussion questions in a monthly blog post; it seems like the majority of you were most interested in chatting via Instagram.

You’re welcome to hop onto my Instagram and start up a convo there (just look for a photo of the book cover)! Or don’t. Whatever.

Ready to get started? Cool cool cool.

Check out the master lists below to see what we’re reading every month of a particular year.

Did you notice I skipped 2021? Ya. It’s because I was pregnant, tired and lazy. Sorry friends!
